DJI joins L-Mount alliance

DJI has announced it is set to join the L-mount alliance, bringing the partnership's membership to five.

Leica, Leitz Cine, Panasonic, Sigma and now DJI round out the alliance, which has the goal of 'providing photographers with one unified lens mount standard […] to combine lenses and cameras made by the [five] Alliance partners,' according to the L-mount alliance website.

In essence it means photographers can mix and match any of the five manufacturers’ APS-C and full-frame cameras with any lens from each other’s product portfolios.

Originally formed in 2018, DJI becomes the first non-core member of the alliance to be granted entry to date. And while the alliance is not open to any manufacturer, it appears DJI has met the conditions set by the existing members and has now been accepted as part of the alliance.

To kick off its induction, DJI announced a new Zenmuse X9 L-mount interchangeable lens mount plate, which allows Ronin 4D users to attach Leica, Leitz Cine, Panasonic and Sigma L-mount lenses to the Ronin 4D, something that wasn't possible previously.

The news comes just a week after Panasonic and Leica reafirmed their longstanding partnership, now known as L², in a sign some pundits had interpreted as a weakening of the L-Mount alliance.
