Nikon announces vlogger-friendly Z 30

Nikon has announced the Z 30, a new 21MP mirrorless camera that can shoot 4K/30 or 1080/120 video. It becomes the Japanese company's third APS-C mirrorless camera aimed at vloggers and content creators, alongside 2019's Z 50 and 2020's Z 5.

Visually, the Z 30 isn't much of a departure from the Z 50, but it does get a fully articulating screen (inherited from the Z fc) and loses the viewfinder. Inside, it features a 21MP CMOS sensor (up by .1 MP over the Z 50), and the same 3.0" 1.04M dot touchscreen and EN-EL25 battery. It weighs 350g.

The Z 30 uses a hybrid AF system, which means it combines phase-detection and contrast AF. It maxes out at 11 frames per second in high-speed continuous shooting, or approximately 5 frames per second in the regular setting.

When it comes to video, you'll get up to 125 minutes of shooting time, with both Eye-Detection Autofocus and Full-time Autofocus (AF-F). The Z 30 has a built-in microphone, a REC lamp that notifies users when a recording is in progress, auto switch to self-portrait mode when the monitor faces the front, and an angle of view that is approximately 100% in 4K UHD/30p, however somewhat strangely there's no headphone port for audio monitoring, or IBIS, for that matter.

The Nikon Z 30 is available for pre-order now, and comes with a NIKKOR Z 16-50MM VR lens for $1,349.95. You can find out more about the Z 30 on Nikon's website.

At the same time, Nikon has announced the NIKKOR Z 400mm f/4.5 VR S, a lightweight (1,160g) super-telephoto prime lens and partner to the flagship Z 400mm f/2.8, will be available for preorder. It retails for $5,599. See Nikon's website for more.
