Christopher Forden, Whispers if Time: Mortality Beneath the Cosmos (SINGLE SHOT 2024)
I went to Deep Creek last night and found this animal carcass, so I sought to explore the themes of decay, time, and the eternal cycle of life. The decayed animal carcass in the foreground serves as a poignant reminder of mortality and the transient nature of existence. Its presence evokes a sense of loss and reflection, inviting us to confront the fragility of life. The 15-minute single exposure captures the mesmerising rotation of the stars above, symbolising the relentless passage of time and the vastness of the universe. As the stars trace their paths across the night sky, they contrast with the stillness of the carcass below, creating a dialogue between the ephemeral and the eternal. Adding depth to this scene is the subtle hue of red glowing in the sky, a manifestation of the aurora. This celestial phenomenon intertwines with the earthly subject, reminding us of the beauty and mystery that exists beyond our world. This juxtaposition encourages contemplation on our place within the cosmos and the inevitable cycle of life and death. Consider the beauty that can be found in decay and the profound connections that exist between all living things. In a world that often rushes past the moments of stillness, this photograph serves as a reminder to pause, reflect, and appreciate the intricate tapestry of life that surrounds us. Exposure: 900 seconds, f/10, ISO400 Nikon Z7II and Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8 G
