Malcolm Worthing, Urban Birding (ANIMAL & NATURE 2023)
I find it fascinating how some species are able to adapt to life in our cities and birds in particular have seemed to become quite successful in doing this. One morning I was on my way to university, using the Flinders Train Line overpass, when I stumbled upon these two Sulphur-crested Cockatoos. They appeared to be playing, undisturbed by the metro train which had just roared past, or the bustling traffic and bright lights below. However, note should also be taken of the photo backgrounds which reveal the urban greening taking place: a lifeline for urban ecosystems. Hopefully we will continue to enjoy these rather unexpected nature experiences as nature-based-solutions continue to develop! (Age 21)
