Keshav Chandrasekaran , The Quiet (MINIMALISM - Entries close 31 July 2026)
Captured on a foggy morning at the beach, this image was created by embracing the atmospheric conditions rather than waiting for clearer weather. Using a long focal length, I isolated a lone figure standing at the edge of the ocean, allowing the surrounding fog to simplify the scene and create a sense of scale, solitude and stillness. The subject was intentionally kept small within the frame so that the negative space became a key part of the composition. The muted tones of the fog, sea and sand contrast with the subtle pop of colour from the subject's clothing, providing a natural focal point without disrupting the minimalist aesthetic. The image aims to evoke a feeling of quiet reflection and the vastness of nature. Captured with a Canon EOS M50 and Tamron 100-400mm lens at 284mm, 1/125 sec, f/4.5 and ISO 250. The photograph was handheld. Post-processing in Adobe Lightroom was intentionally minimal and included minor exposure adjustments, subtle colour balancing, contrast refinement and a slight crop to strengthen the composition while preserving the natural atmosphere of the scene.
