Victoria Mcneill, The Height of Summer, 2019 (Landscape 2019)

The group of works Which We Are Much In Want Of, shows the incessant mutability of water. Stepping away from the classic rectangle landscape, the heavenly space becomes narrower and deeper as if a vessel is being filled and emptied, like the rising and falling swell. An almost abstract image emerges, while it still refers to a landscape, exhibits its own visual mood. Viewed from a distance, these representations could be large mountain ranges with a short depth of field, viewed up close the images are what they are, rain drops on water. Shooting in the water whatever the conditions can create a challenging if not surprising, outcome. Low light, grey skies, dark water, all contribute to the mood of these images. Throw in some beautiful textures created by falling rain and you have an interesting combination of elements. (All images are 150x150mm)
