graham earnshaw, Shark Bay from Above (Aerial 2018)

In Sept last year, I made an epic road trip from Perth to Broome and back over 3 weeks. On the way up, I stopped off at the staggeringly beautiful Shark Bay world heritage region, where I took a 30minute cessna flight. The area is famous for its huge number of "birridas" which are ancient gypsum salt lakes. And whether wet or dry, these birridas have their own shapes, textures and patterns, making it such an unique environment and visual spectacle from the air - especially viewing through an open door of a little plane at 2000ft. These birridas also make a striking contrast against the parched surrounding landscape. The National Park is also surrounded by the azure calm waters of the Indian Ocean, which itself makes for some amazing textured and patterned imagery.
