Natalie Hampel, Rock Pool (Landscape 2018)
Many people told me that the Kimberley Coast is full of amazing wonders, from beautiful sunsets to ancient dinosaur footprints. These were attractions that I had to witness with my own eyes. I arrived before sunset, grabbed my camera and went straight to the beach. It was flowing with people sitting on the sand watching the setting sun. To the right of the crowd stood large rocks covering the sand where nobody seemed to be. I was intrigued and went over there to have a look. I was walking on the rocky beach, taking in the magnificent landscape when a wave of emotion flowed through me. In that moment I felt how ancient this land truly is and the presence of these ancient creatures that once roamed this very land I was standing on. I was overwhelmed. I was drawn to look down at my feet and was surprised to see I was standing in a dinosaur footprint. I then realised they were all around me… disguised as rock pools.
