Duane Bridger, Portrait of schizophrenia (People and Portrait 2019)

These images are some of my most recent that follow the situation of my brother, Darren, who has had Tuberous Sclerosis since birth and more recently was diagnosed with late-onset schizophrenia. Documenting his situation has become a long-term project that I hope shines a light on those with difficult-to-treat mental health disorders. Doctors have been unable to find a pharmaceutical solution to combat the voices that torment Darren, and is pre-existing condition makes it more difficult for him to comprehend what's reality. I am confident a solution can be found to ease his suffering, but families and doctors need to show resilience and persistence in such cases - we owe it to him.
