Peter Virag, Natural vs. Industrial (Aerial 2018)
I really love the freedom drone photography provides and the unique opportunity to explore the world around us from completely new perspectives. I am very fond of abstract patterns, vivid colours, clean compositions, use of diagonal lines & simple geometry which both my aerial and general imagery reflects. I hope that my photography inspires people to realise that the amazing wonders of nature and even seemingly mundane subjects that surround us should never be taken for granted. In my 4 entries I used two nature-themed frames in contrast with a couple industrial scenes. Description of entries: 1.) Storage tanks High angle shot of storage tanks at Coode Island in Melbourne. I really loved the repetition and the difference in size between the tanks and the amazing rusty texture of the large receptacles. 2.) Under Development More and more areas that used to belong to nature are under human development. I wanted to capture this stage of the construction when these two different construction layers were still visible. 3.)Bands of colour High angle shot of the colourful textures and patterns at Cheetham Salt Works. “The Cheetham Salt Works was established in 1924 and operating until 1990. Although no longer used as an operating salt works the regime of maintaining variable water levels throughout the complex system is still maintained by Parks Victoria in its present role as a wetland environment and hence the original processes can still be interpreted today.” ( heritagecouncil.vic.gov.au) 4.) Rowers Rowers training around a small island at Albert Park Lake on the outskirts of Melbourne’s CBD.
