Nilmini De Silva, Melting Ice (May Theme: Seasons)

This is a composite of two images I took while on a zodiac and cruising the waters of Erebus and the Terror Gulf. It is great to be on the Eastern side of Antarctica as it is less visited. Nothing says winter to me more than snow, as I was born on an island that sits a few degrees north of the equator. But this is summer in Antarctica and it was taken on a magic day. I remember how incredibly peaceful it was. I loved being still and listening to the sound of water lapping up against the ice and the occasional twitter of Antarctic bird life. I am enveloped by the beauty around me and I find it hard to believe this was my reality!
