Jessica Korner, IKEA and Water (SINGLE SHOT 2022)

A beautiful decoration left behind after the horror floods in the Northern Beaches. This piece is the bottom of what was once a drawer from under my IKEA bed. It was pretty huge, half the length of a Queen bed and half the width. I loved that bed but when the water rose in my bedroom, subsided and then rose again, I was sure I’d be found floating on it in my neighbours garden the next morning. As it turned out, this was a silver lining to the many clouds, literally, and I got a pretty picture of the special stuff (fungi/ mould) instead… and then had to toss the bed. I bet IKEA doesn’t know that one of their lovely products, when mixed with the right amount of water, for the right amount of time can end up looking quite wonderfully Aboriginal art-like.
