Peter Gariner, I see you. (February theme: Colour)

It’s amazing the palettes of colours that nature offers up. I particularly like the complimentary blue and yellow colours of cassowaries. This one was eyeing me off at Featherdale Wildlife park in Sydney’s Western Suburbs. I think he was considering taking a snap at my son’s fingers. Luckily it was me that come away with the “snap!” The challenge of this photo was taking it through a dense wire fence and the rather uninspiring background of this particular enclosure. I used manual focusing to deal with the fence and a long lens, wide open to throw out the background. This had the added benefit of highlighting the character of the bird.
