Julie Spencer, FROCKED UP REFLECTIONS (PEOPLE 2020)

Charis, a budding fashion designer with a penchant for all things vintage, models her grandmother's soiree dresses. Her grandmother, a dedicated seamstress in her spare time, made most of her own garments. Charis has followed in her footsteps in this series of captures, and not only wears these outfits, but respectfully holds her grandmother's tools of trade alongside some of her own, grateful that knocking up a decent frock is considerably much easier these days. The treasures displayed range from scissors, cotton reels, a vintage miniature Singer sewing machine she had as a child, tape measures, vintage laces, petticoats, rosary bead memorabilia and a christening gown over 100 years old. Restoration of this precious gown was commonplace after every church ceremony with a decent holy water drenching over the baptismal font. Charis not only reflects on her grandmother's past but has seemingly become today's version of her.
