Christina Stubbs, Clive and Barb Holden, founders of Coolum Hearts (PEOPLE 2023)

Coolum heARTs Inc is a local not - for profit organisation offering low-cost access the arts, music and life skills for everyone in the community around Coolum Beach, QLD. About ten years ago, founders Barb and Clive Holden recognised a need in the community for a place where people could access low-cost activities and enjoy benefits both creative and therapeutic. Initially art classes were conducted in their own home. Due to their personal interest, talents and drive Coolum HeARTs Inc is the group it is today – a safe, supported, friendly environment for anyone who is new to the area and wants to make friends, learn new skills and especially for those suffering from illness, disability or social disconnection. Clive is an artist whose work can be seen in Parliament House, Government House, and Historic Ayers House home of the National Trust South Australia. Many of Clive’s murals can be seen around Australia in public buildings and private homes. Barb is a retired social worker with a passion for assisting people facing challenges in their lives. Coolum Hearts now offers classes in art, mosaics, choir, drumming, meditation and men's resilience. I captured Clive in his studio and both of then interacting with participants at the Coolum Hearts Shed.
