John Dalton, Autumn Harvest Moon (May theme: Seasons)
Peanut harvest occurs in late autumn. The verdant green of summer is replaced by the dry reds of winter. Slow moving noisy peanut threshers fill the air with red dust, and the smell of peanuts and soils fills the air. Farmers work late to ensure the harvest is done. A full moon rising suggests it’s getting late but that the work must continue while the air is dry. This photo has a big open sky to suggest that the farmer works alone and late while the dry autumn harvest is on. It has few elements in the view: just the red soil and dust, the farmer and the machine, and a full moon in a big sky to oversee the harvest.
