Stephen Laurence, Along a wintery coast (LANDSCAPE 2020)
Many times shooting landscape we attempt to shoot the perfect sunrise or sunset and the golden colours associated with it. But in winter, this is not often the case. I wake up and it is overcast, or storms. On the rugged ocean side of the Mornington Peninsula the sea can be harsh and brutal (it reminds of the Atlantic coast in Ireland). And I love this darkness, this enveloping obscurity. Because there are nuggets of gold like the silvers and deep blues that emerge. And other special moments like the morning I photographed the Dragon's Head; the morning had very heavy grey clouds, but for a moment, a slight gap in the clouds appeared in the same place of the dragon's nostrils and it appeared to be breathing life out into the air. This made me feel alive.
