adam broomhall, Abstract 2 (January theme: Abstract)

Immersing myself in the ocean with a DSLR in a waterproof housing, I aim to communicate the wide variety of emotions it offers me in an abstract way that invites contemplation. I use minimal post-processing, preferring to create the visual interest of my images in camera at the time of capture. I favour a lengthened shutter speed to introduce mystery while using aperture to increase detail, or to smooth it out for a more ethereal feel. The colours in my images come from the time of day. Blues in the daytime, using a ND filter, oranges at sunset and purples once the sun has set before it is completely dark. Allowing myself to be vulnerable in the ocean with all it's associated dangers, is the most sincere way I know how to pay respect and give thanks for the images it allows me to create.
