Master Light, Composition, and Wild High Country Landscapes

Discover the South Island’s high country, where golden tussock plains meet rugged mountains and alpine lakes. Begin in Central Otago’s Maniototo, a region celebrated for its big skies, dramatic light, and sweeping vistas — landscapes that inspired the works of painter Grahame Sydney.

During our Light & Composition Masterclass, you’ll develop your skills in framing, perspective, and working with natural light across a variety of settings.

Explore hidden corners of Central Otago, from the Hawkdun Ranges to St Bathans to capture stunning light and dramatic landscapes few photographers ever experience.

Wanaka – Southern Alps, Lake Reflections & Lone Tree

Next, travel to Wanaka, a photographer’s paradise. Capture the famous lone tree, mirrored lake reflections, and the surrounding alpine ranges. This stop is perfect for refining techniques in landscape composition and light management, whether shooting reflections, mountains, or tranquil waterscapes.

Aoraki/Mount Cook & Mackenzie Country – Epic Alpine Landscapes

The tour’s highlight is Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park and the surrounding Mackenzie Country. Based in Twizel for two nights, you’ll explore alpine lakes, braided rivers, and New Zealand’s highest peaks.

Venture into remote areas for dramatic compositions and learn to capture the scale, atmosphere, and light that make this region one of the country’s most iconic photography destinations.
