Video: 5 Lightroom secrets you should know
While Lightroom is much more user-friendly than say Photoshop, it's still a piece of software with a fairly large learning curve - meaning that even for veterans of the program like us who have been using it for nearly 20 years, there's always something new to learn.
And this great video by YouTuber Matt Kloskowski is a good reminder why - as he shares five pieces of advice that even seasoned editors may not realise are actually in Lr at all.
One tip that is particularly handy and criminally underused (at least by us) is the Previous button that sits in the bottom right corner of the develop module. This button applies all edits from your previously viewed photo to the current image with a single click - making it ideal for images that have similar tonal values.
Matt also saves an interesting workflow approach for last - the idea that instead of beginning with global adjustments in the Basic panel, as many of us probably do now, it now makes sense to start with local adjustments via Lightroom’s AI-driven masking features, including subject, sky, and landscape detection.
This is due to the increased accuracy and sophistication of the tools, which now allow for faster, more advanced edits by applying targeted adjustments to exposure, white balance, contrast, and tonal range with a single click.
The idea is then that the Basic panel can then be used for subtle final balancing to complete the image.
So, what do you think, is this how you edit already, or is a new idea? Let us know in the comments.
