The best Black Friday deals for photographers we could find

Comments Comments

Unless you've been living under a rock, you'll know all about Black Friday, the US imported sale day/weekend that has caused quite a stir downunder.

But if you have been living under a rock, then the TL;DR is Black Friday has surpassed Boxing Day as the biggest event on the annual consumerism retail calendar in Australia.

Black Friday (and the similar Cyber Monday) came about because in the US the period between Thanksgiving on the Thursday and the following Sunday is the only four-day weekend most people get. Over time, this has also made it the biggest and busiest holiday period of the year.

As to why it's been adopted so enthusiastically in other parts of the world nobody quite knows, but hey, who doesn't love a bargain?

So, while you're deciding whether that discount you've just discovered is actually a proper one or not, we decided to gather up a few of the best discounts for photographers we could find around the traps.

It's worth noting too that these deals could change at anytime, so be aware that they may not be current by the time you read this.

1) 50% off Adobe Creative Cloud

It's the default creative software for a reason, and while the discount doesn't extend to the Photographer's Package (which includes Lightroom and Photoshop), the 50% discount on Adobe's All Apps plan from $87.99 to $43.97 a month is a pretty good one, and results in a saving of $527.64 over a period of 12 months.

Unfortunately it's only valid for the next 13 hours from when we wrote this article, so don't wait too long!

2) DxO products up to 50% off

Unlike the Adobe deal above, DxO, the company behind the Nik Collection, have made its discounts on all its products until December 2 2024.

According to DxO, the discounts extend to both new licences and upgrades. That means you can get DxO's Nik Collection 7 (which we reviewed earlier this year) for a handy $109.99 USD ($169 AUD) down from $159 USD ($233 AUD).

There's also a discount for DxO's powerful Photolab 8 software, which is $179.99 USD ($276 AUD) down from $229 USD ($352 AUD), among others.

3) Up to 37% off at DJI

Who knows how they settled on the figure of 37% off, but DJI's Black Friday sale does have the odd gem, with the DJI Mini 3 Fly More Combo down to $839 (usually $1,199) probably the standout. We reviewed it here in case you were wondering what it's like.

The Osmo Mobile 6 for a tidy $129 isn't too bad either.

4) 50% off on camera and smartphone gimbals and lights at Zhiyun

Smartphone and camera gimbal company Zhiyun has a pretty handy discount for Black Friday, and as far as we can tell it's eligible in Australia provided you order through Zhiyun's website direct.

5) Get cashback with a Black Friday deal

Now can be a great time to upgrade your gear as a number of camera companies are also offering cashback deals on selected cameras and lenses.

Fujifilm has up to $800 cashback on certain products until 31 December, Nikon will give you a Prepaid Eftpos Card up to the value of $200 if you buy before Feb 5, 2025, OM System will give you up to $500, and Canon has up to $300 cashback until 31 January.

Its Canon R5 is on sale for $4,079 at Ted's Cameras Black Friday sale, but you can knock a further $300 off that with the cashback deal.

6) Buy a cheap subscription to AP mag

We couldn't round out the list without a plug for our own offering - even if it isn't strictly speaking a Black Friday discount.

We're currently running a promo where you can get a year (seven issues) of Australian Photography mag in both print and digital delivered to your door for just $38 - a saving of a whopping $45%.
