Sony has ramped up its Alpha lineup launching two new DSLRs, the Alpha 65 and 77. Both cameras house a 24.3 megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor and Sony’s new hi-def 2.4-million dot OLED electronic viewfinder. Further, the A77 boasts a maximum shooting speed of 12fps, making it the world’s fastest interchangeable-lens camera.

AF tracking has improved compared to previous models with the A77 incorporating a new 19-point autofocus system with 11 cross sensors. The A65 boasts 15-point AF with three cross sensors.

Autofocus tracking in movie mode has also been enhanced to allow accurate full-time focus even when following fast-moving subjects. Both new models can capture Full HD video at 60p frame rates and utilise the new AVCHD Progressive (Ver. 2.0) codec. The option to shoot in 24p is also available, as is the ability to access PASM exposure modes during video shooting.

On-board GPS allows automatic geo-tagging of photos and video clips with location data.

Both cameras use 3-inch, 921,000-dot LCDs, though the A77 debuts a new three-way adjustable screen. (The A65 screen tilts in just two axes.)

The Alpha A77 and A65 will be available in Australia in mid October. Prices: Alpha 65 – $1299 (body only),  $1499 (with Sony 18-55mm lens); Alpha 77 – $1899 (body only), $2799 (with Sony 16-50mm lens).
