Sony has released a "mark II" version of its Cyber-shot RX100, adding WiFi, an articulated LCD and a new 1-inch 20.2-megapixel back-illuminated CMOS sensor that Sony claims is 40% more sensitive to light than its predecessor. Interestingly, the camera also includes an NFC (Near Field Communications) chip which allows users to transfer photos to an Android smartphone or tablet by touching  the devices together.

The body shape and lens (28-100mm equivalent, f1.8-4.9) remain the same, though a new hot-shoe and the tilting screen slightly changes the look of the camera. The new hot shoe allows the use of external flash units or the addition of Sony's optional external viewfinder.

Video capabilities have been extended with the camera now able to shoot 1080p resolution at 24 frames per second (fps) as well as the 60 and 30fps options offered by the original RX 100.

Other key features include Steady-shot image stabilisation, ISO range from 160-12,800 (expandable to 25,000), a 3-inch (75mm) 1,229,000-dot tilting LCD and a top shooting speed of 10fps in continuous shooting mode.

The RX100 II will be available in Australia from mid-July for $899. The RX100 will continue to be available for $799.
