Following the launch of the RX100 II earlier this year, Sony continues to grow its range of high-end RX compact cameras with the announcement of the Cyber-shot RX10, a 20-megapixel camera that combines the 1-inch (13.2 x 8.8mm) CMOS sensor from the RX100 II with a pro-style 24-200mm f/2.8 zoom lens.

The fixed Carl Zeiss Vario Sonnar T* 24-200mm offers a constant f/2.8 maximum aperture across the entire zoom range and includes Optical SteadyShot to reduce camera shake at longer focal lengths. A control ring around the lens can be used for zoom or focus control, or set up as a dedicated aperture ring with physical detents at each aperture step.

On the back, the camera features a high-resolution (1,440,000-dot) OLED electronic viewfinder and a tilting 3-inch LCD (1,290,000 dots). An additional LCD on the top deck displays exposure and other key settings.

Video appears to have been given some consideration as the RX10 can shoot Full HD video at 60p and 24p frame rates with full control over PASM exposure modes. There's also an audio level meter with adjustable levels, microphone jack and headphone output.

Like all new Sony cameras, the camera comes with built-in WiFi and NFC for wireless image sharing and remote control with compatible smartphones and tablets.

The Sony Cyber-shot RX10 will be available in November 2013 with a retail price of $1499.
