Panasonic has released a new 'Post Focus' mode that allows users of select Lumix cameras to change focus after a photo is taken. Post Focus mode is available as a firmware update for Lumix GX8, G7 and FZ300 cameras now and will be available for the GH4 in early 2016.

In Post Focus mode the camera captures a range of focus points for each shot, so users can adjust the image post-shot to put the focus precisely where they want.

Panasonic says the mode is particularly suited to macro, food and portrait photography where depth of field and focus are important tools in the story telling process.

"When the moment is fleeting, you can use this mode to capture your image, with flexibility in deciding on the absolutely ideal focus point after the event," said Scott Mellish, Business Manager, G Series, Panasonic. “You can take your shot and then review and select your preferred focus point so it is pin-sharp."

Post Focus can be used  for multiple shots, with fine adjustment, 5x magnified view and Focus Peaking as the shot is selected. The new mode requires high-speed, high-resolution imaging and uses  Depth From Defocus autofocus technology together with the 4K engine, which can record in high resolution at a fast frame rate.

Panasonic's new 'Post Focus' mode allows users to move the focus point after the photo is taken. In the images above the focus has moved from the bride (top) to the flowers.
