Nikon has unveiled details of its new Nikon 1 V3, the latest addition to it's growing range of 1-series mirrorless, interchangeable-lens cameras. The V3 features a new 18.4-megapixel 1-inch CMOS sensor and a maximum continuous shooting speed of 20 frames per second (fps) with continuous AF, and 60fps with single AF. The camera sports a hybrid focusing system with 171 contrast-detect focus areas and 105 areas for phase-detect focusing.

Unlike the V2, the V3 does not include a built-in viewfinder, though there is a high-res 2,359,000-dot plug-in finder which is available as an optional extra. Also missing from the V3 is an anti-aliasing (AA) filter. That should account for an improvement in image detail and sharpness, though It's unclear if any measures have been taken to address the issue of moire, which you would expect to be more pronounced without an AA filter.

Other features include 1080/60p Full HD video, a touch-sensitive tilting 3-inch (76mm) LCD screen, dual control dials and, for the first time in a Nikon 1 series camera, built-in Wi-Fi.

Also announced with the Nikon 1 V3 were two new 1 Nikkor lenses –  the VR 10-30mm f/3.5-5.6 PD (27-81mm equivalent) all-purpose zoom, and the VR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 (189-810mm equivalent) super telephoto.

The Nikon 1 V3 and two new lenses will be available in Australia from April 17, 2014. Local pricing has not been announced though the camera with the 10-30mm lens, viewfinder and vertical grip will retail for US$1200 in the States.
