Nikon's mirrorless announcement next week will include two cameras

The rumours of Nikon's new mirrorless full frame camera are coming thick and fast ahead of the official announcement next week, however one rumour appears all but certain - two cameras are coming.

Two cameras

Nikon Rumors says two cameras are coming on August 23: one with 24MP and the other with a 45MP full frame sensor. The 24MP model will be named Nikon Z6, and the 45MP model will be named Nikon Z7. Also, the lenses for the new mirrorless system will likely be called Z-Nikkor, but this is yet to be confirmed.

And also according to Nikon Rumors, Nikon are squarely eyeing up the professional market, with a plan to focus on high-end prime lenses for their new mirrorless cameras. Three will be announced on launch along with the cameras:

  • 24-70mm f/4
  • 50mm f/1.8
  • a wide angle lens (24mm f/1.8, 28mm f/1.8 or 35mm f/1.8)

Further lenses

The lens mount, estimated to be 49mm, will allow for the use of lenses with wide apertures - and it is expected the newly announced lens family could also include a 58mm f/0.95 lens, although this is not expected until after the announcement.
