Streaming giant Netflix has launched applications to join its first ever Unit Photography Bootcamp, open to photographers Australia-wide who are keen to learn more about a career in the screen industry.

Netflix says the three-day course, which runs in July, will be open to just 10 photographers interested in unit stills, and will help develop skills, create networks and obtain insights into what's required to succeed in this on-set role.

The workshop will be led by respected industry veteran John Platt; and will feature experiences and insights from long-term industry professionals working in a production environment including editorial workshops.

In addition, attendees will meet with Netflix department heads from Australia and the US, offering a view into the inner workings of productions worldwide and exploring why film stills are crucial to modern film productions.

Finally, panel discussions and sessions will be combined with practical photography tasks and the potential for an on-set experience during production of TV-show Heartbreak High Season 2.

Successful participants will be provided with return economy airfares from their city of origin and three nights accommodation.

Participants must have their own professional camera equipment, and if possible a laptop, to take part.

Applications from people who identify as coming from an underrepresented group, or who are Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander people are encouraged to apply.
