Lens filter manufacturer Lee Filters has announced the release of a new neutral density filter that reduces the amount of light reaching the camera lens by a whopping 15 stops.

Dubbed the Super Stopper, the new ND filter is sure to grab the interest of long exposure enthusiasts – the Super Stopper will convert a two-second exposure into one that lasts 17 hours and 4 minutes (see exposure chart below).

The Super Stopper will be available for Lee's 100mm, SW150 and Sev5n ranges, and is made from what the maker describes as 'high-quality optical glass'. It joins Lee's 10-stop Big Stopper and the 6-stop Little Stopper in the company’s range of ND filters.

The company claims the new filter induces only a slight colour cast to images which can be easily removed in post-production.

The filter factor of the Super Stopper is 3200 and it has a density of 4.5.

The new filter comes packaged in a protective tin case and has a lifetime warranty and is expected to be available soon.
