JVC's new GC-PX10 is the latest in a growing line of high-end video-stills hybrid cameras. The camera can shoot 12-megapixel stills and capture 1980 x 1080p video.
Further, sharp still images can be created from individual video frames. That's due to the camera's fast 36 Mbps sampling rate and the fact it uses "progressive" recording, which means each individual frame offers complete visual information – in "interlace" mode each frame only includes half the visual information.
Super slow motion is available at a frame rate of 250 frames per second, though with the resolution reduced to 640 x 360 pixels. In this mode movement can be slowed to one-fifth of its normal speed.
Other features include a 10x optical zoom, back-illuminated CMOS sensor, optical image stabiliser and a 3-inch tiltable LCD.
The camera is scheduled for release in Australia in October with a recommended retail price of $1,099.
