Occasionally cameras capture more detail than we would like. For portraits, a softer look can be more flattering, minimising lines and blemishes. Even in landscapes, a hint of blur can create a misty, almost ethereal feel. The “smooth tone technique” in this project makes use of Gaussian Blur, layer blend modes and adjustment layers to create an image that appears to have been shot with a softer and gentler light source. It’s a subtle effect but you can increase its strength very easily.
