Shauna Greyerbiehl, Stephen Dupont and James Brickwood have taken out the major awards in the 2011 Head On Portrait Prize. An additional critics choice award, selected by art critic Robert McFarlane, has gone to Katrin Koenning for her image, Sleeping Woman. The winners will share in a prize pool worth over $50,000.

The winning images, along with 40 finalists and a slide show of a further 200 entries, are on display as part of the Head On Photo Festival at the Australian Centre for Photography in Paddington, Sydney.

The 2011 Head On Portrait Prize was judged by Moshe Rosenzveig, Head On Festival director, Judith Blackall, MCA Head of Artistic Programs, Sandra Harrison, Sydney Morning Herald Photographic Managing Editor and award-winning photographer Sean Izzard.

The announcement of the winners marked the opening of the Head On Photo Festival, which runs until June 11 and includes more than 130 exhibitions and events around Sydney in public and commercial galleries, cafes, parklands and in the streets themselves.
