Fujifilm’s X20 compact camera features a precision lens and the manufacturer says it offers substantially improved performance. A development from the X10, the new camera has an X-Trans CMOS II sensor, and EXR processor, and a new advanced optical viewfinder. It comes in either black or black and silver.
The optical viewfinder has a new Digital Trans Panel, which displays the shutter speed, aperture, ISO, focusing area, and other shooting information, even in low light. It also synchronises the camera’s zoom lens, so shots can be composed using the viewfinder, even when the focal length is changing. The newly developed 12 million pixels 2/3in X-Trans CMOS II sensor and EXR Processor II, which Fujifilm says increases resolution by around 20% and reduces noise by more than 30%, can capture high-resolution images. With the removal of the optical low-pass filter and with a powerful processor fitted, the manufacturer says the X20 will produce clear images with minimal graininess, even at high ISO settings. The sensor has built-in Phase Detection pixels for high-speed AF in as little as 0.06 seconds. It has a fast response time with a start-up time of around 0.5 seconds, a shutter time lag of about 0.01 seconds and a shooting interval of 0.5 seconds.
The camera’s lens is an f/2.0-2.8 4x manual zoom unit, with image stabilisation up to 4 stops to remove blur, and seven diaphragm blades helping to create a strong ‘bokeh’ effect which softens backgrounds. The camera has a shoe-mount flash which is suitable for three types of Fujifilm external flash, capable of the proprietary high-precision TTL auto flash control. It also has a range of accessories, including a leather case, a lens hood and an LHF-X20 protector filter, which is a highly transmissive protection filter.
