Fujifilm has released details of its latest X-series interchangeable-lens camera, the X-A1. The new entry-level model, which is expected to go on sale in Australia in October, features an APS-C CMOS sensor, 3-inch (76mm) LCD, built-in flash and Wi-Fi.

The new model uses a conventional Bayer sensor array, rather than the X-Trans sensor arrangement that's used in the X-Pro1, X-M1, X-E1.
"The new X-A1 is the ideal choice for enthusiasts looking to take the next step to upgrade to an interchangeable lens camera," said Melissa Butcher, Fujifilm Product Manager, Consumer Imaging.

The 16.3-megapixel sensor is paired with Fujifilm's EXR Processor II which allows a start-up time of 0.5 seconds and a maximum burst speed of 5.6 frames per second for up to 30 JPEG frames.

The camera offers a full suite of creative controls including a PASM-type mode dial on the top deck and two command dials – one on top and another on the back of the camera – to adjust settings such as aperture, shutter speed and exposure compensation. Individual buttons are also provided for white balance, burst mode and macro. On the back is a 920,000-dot LCD that tilts up and down to make it easier to capture shots from ground level and overhead.

The X-A1 weighs 330 grams (without lens) and will be available in three colours: black, blue and red. The single lens kit, which includes the XC16-50mm lens, will carry a recommended retail price of $849.

In other Fujifilm news, the company has announced its tenth X-mount lens, the XC50-230mm F4.5-6.7 OIS. It has an equivalent focal length of 76-350mm, built-in image stabilisation and is expected to retail for $599.
