From the “strange but very cool” file comes the story of Mike Stimpson who has paid tribute to some of the 20th Century’s most famous photos by recreating them in Lego.

A story on dpreview.com this week drew our attention to the work of artist and photographer Mike Stimpson, who has paid tribute to some of the 20th Century’s most famous photos by recreating them in Lego.

The unusual homage includes Lego recreations of, among others, Henri Cartier-Bresson’s 1932 classic 'Behind the Gare Saint Lazare', Joe Rosenthal's 1945 photograph 'Raising the flag on Iwo Jima', and Charles Ebbets' 1932 photograph 'Lunch atop a skyscraper'.

'I do seem to take quite a lot of photographs of Lego, although I’m more of a photographer than a Lego builder,' Stimpson declares on his redbubble page. 'I also enjoy messing about with landscapes and portraiture, but don’t get a chance to do those as often as I’d like to. I’m a big fan of Ansel Adams and Henri Cartier-Bresson, though it probably doesn’t show in my photos.’

You can see a selection of Stimpson’s unusual Lego creations below, and more at his website.
