Canon has released an ‘astronomically
optimised’ version of its EOS 60D DSLR. The new EOS 60Da is similar to the 60D with
the key difference being a new low-pass infrared filter, which is said to produce
clearer images of stars and “red hydrogen emission” nebulae.
The
EOS 60Da is built around an 18-megapixel APS-C sensor, which in itself will
make it a much more useful tool than Canon’s last astrophotography camera, the 8.2-megapixel
EOS 20Da.
EOS 20Da upgraders can look forward to LiveView, video capture,
a bigger and clearer LCD, the ability to stream images to TV and much more. The
camera can also be connected to a telescope with an optional T-ring adapter.
It should be in stores by April 19. Canon has not
released local pricing.
