Adobe has released version 11 of its consumer image-editing software, Photoshop Elements.
The new version includes a redesigned user interface with larger icons and a cleaner layout. Users can choose from Quick, Guided and Expert editing modes. Quick offers a simplified interface and basic one-click controls, while Guided offers more advanced controls but with tips to help users add effects such as tilt-shift and vignettes or make high or low-key tonal changes. Expert editing looks more like the full version of Photoshop and offers access to the full suite of photo-editing tools including Levels, Curves and Layer Masks.
As with previous version of Elements, the software includes a pared-down version of Adobe Camera Raw which includes the Basic, Detail and Camera Calibration tabs.
Images can now be sorted according to faces, places (via Google maps geo-tagging) or events and connectivity has improved to allow easy photo sharing via email, Facebook, YouTube, Vimeo and other sites. A new Refine Edge feature makes it easier to select fine details such as hair and there are three new filters – Comic, Graphic Novel and Pen & Ink.
Photoshop Elements 11 is available for $145 for the full version or $120 as an upgrade. It's available in Mac and Windows versions.
