Entry to the prestigious 25th Moran Contemporary Photographic Prize is now open.

The national competition awards and promotes Australian contemporary photography and invites photographic entries that interpret, 'Contemporary Life in Australia with an emphasis on day-to-day life'.

The Doug Moran National Portrait Prize was established in 1988 by Doug and Greta Moran to foster portraiture skills. Since 2007 the Foundation has also been a strong supporter of photography.

This year the Moran prizes will be hosted at Juniper Hall, in Paddington, Sydney. Juniper Hall will become the permanent home of The Moran Arts Foundation Collection and the venue for the annual exhibition of the Moran prizes. The historic Georgian building will be an important new exhibition space, displaying the winning works from this year's competition.

More than $110,000 is offered in prize money for the Photographic Prize, with $100,000 set aside for the winner and runners up in the open section.

Additional prizes are available for students from kindergarten through to year 12, with prizes also given to the the schools the winning students attend. The schools photographic prize consists of two streams: secondary and primary schools. For secondary schools, years 11 to 12, the winner is awarded $5,000 and their school $5,000 for the development of arts at the school; for secondary schools, Years 9 to 10, the winner is awarded $3,000 and their school $3,000; for secondary schools, Years 7 to 8, the winner is awarded $2,000 and their school $2,000; and in the primary school category, kindergarten to Year 6, a digital camera will be awarded to 30 selected winners as well as a certificate of merit. Every year 40 open finalists are also selected for exhibition.


To enter the competition contestants must complete an online entry form and pay a non-refundable entry fee of $25 per image (free for students). The closing date and time for entries is 4pm, Wednesday, September 25, 2013.
