Hi Isobelle,

I have to commend for you making this photo. More often than not, people make photos with frivolous intent… the usual “that’s nice”, “that’s cute” sort of photos.

It is not often that someone tells their husband they have resigned from their job and then, in the next moment, they make a photo of their spouse contemplating the outcomes of that decision.

It shows courage, but also some understanding by the two of you… and that is good in anyone’s language.

On its own (without the back story) what makes the image strong is the focus on the ring… although the fact the ring is on the right hand leaves me wondering. Had this been the left hand then the photo would have implied the stresses of married life.

One thing that I am not too sure about is the cropping, and more importantly, the pose of your husband in this image.

That said, it is a moment in time that you, more so than anyone else, had to gauge for yourself. I doubt I would be telling my wife that I have given up my job, and then a moment later be telling her how to pose for a photo.

A quirky way to treat this image is shown below… It's interesting to see that by placing the hand in the lower left of the frame our eye tends to work its way up the image and the dark hairline naturally pulls the eye back to the ring again.

Good work… and I hope you have another job again soon – preferably one you love!.

Cheers,

Anthony
