Hi Alisa,

This is a rather strong portrait, and I love the earthy tonal range that you have happening, both on the subject and background.

Now, on the whole there is not a lot that needs doing to this image, but there is one small trick that you can apply to the image to make it stronger.

As you look at the right side of the subject’s face (his left) you notice that his face is brighter on that side, and there is a tendency for the eye to then slide off to the right into the bright background. One small trick I have learnt is to darken the outer edge of the face so that it keeps the eyes from falling onto the background. It's a simple thing, but as you can hopefully see below, it works.

The simplest way of darkening the edge of the face is to use an adjustment brush in the Adobe Camera Raw convertor. You only need to reduce the brightness by about -0.25 of a stop.

The only other adjustments I made were to lighten the subject's right eye and give the image a slight crop. Otherwise this is great work!
