Hi Marius,

The challenge within photography is always to try and capture an image that will engage an audience. If the photograph is of people or animals, or an element of desire such as a new car (or camera!) then it is pretty easy to capture some of his attention. When we are photographing a rather simple landscape though, then we need to start getting clever with the design.

Overall there are some interesting elements to work with in this photograph, but the design itself is not that strong.

If I was making this image I would start by recomposing the photograph so the central three lampposts were the main focus of the picture. Next I would walk backwards a little bit to bring the lamp in the foreground closer in scale to the two lamps in the background. Finally I would try and get a lower camera position and silhouette someone on the jetty against the sky.

As an alternative though, you could also go back to this location and convert this image into more of a panorama photograph. If there are more of those lights to the left and right of the frame, this might give the picture some more strength.

Cheers,

Anthony
