Hi Dennis,

This is a rather gentle image that reflects nicely on some of the flooding you have in your region lately; there are 2 adjustments that I think should make to the photograph though.

The 1st adjustment and I would make is to the geometry of the image. I feel that the lens you have used has some barrel distortion to it and this is reflected in the slight curvature of the horizon. While the inexperienced I might not notice curvature, it does become apparent with time,  particularly as your eye becomes better trained.

There are 2 ways that you can create this geometry; the 1st option is to adjust the image using the Lens Correction tool in the RAW convertor, this is where I do most of my geometry adjustments for all my landscape and architectural photographs. The other option is simply to use the Lens Correction tool in Photoshop. Either option will work.

All you need to do  is use the distortion slider to adjust for the slight barrel distortion. This will pinch the sides of the images that then you will need to re-crop photographs but a straighter horizon does tend to look more natural.

The 2nd adjustment that I would make is to the tree in the middle of the photograph. I feel that the detail is lost in the dark and muddy times. One simple way to adjust this is to select the tree trunk itself and then use the curves panel just to add more time. As another option though, you can also use a mixture of the Dodge tool, and the burning tall to selectively light and dark in parts of the track.

I hope this will help.  Cheers, Image Doctor.
