Hi Natasha,

Photographing babies is one of the world’s toughest assignments. Babies and young children never do want you want! And if these little people are smiling and looking cute, it is probably because you have looked away or packed up your camera. Remarkably though, most parents will love almost any photograph you take of their child, and for that reason, photographing babies still remains a profitable gig for photographers all over the country.

I only have one concern with this photo, and given that you captured the photo in RAW mode, it should be really easy to fix.

As I look at this image, I get the feeling there is a slight coldness to the photograph; this is caused when the White Balance for the camera is not gauging the light accurately.

This is not a camera fault, but it is usually caused when you rely on Auto White Balance too much. Remember, cameras can identify lights, darks and colours in a photograph, but unlike us, cameras cannot put these variations in a scene into context.

Adding warmth back into the photograph will help us connect more with this image, in much the same way that people would rather look at a warm sunset photo than a blue sky!

The simplest way to adjust this image is to open the file again in RAW mode, and then increase the White Balance slider a little to make the image warmer. It might be a case that for now the slider might be (at a guess) about 4500K. Try moving it to 5500K and compare the difference.

I hope this is a help.

Cheers,

Anthony
