The standout feature on the new flagship, the X80 Pro, is a quadruple-camera array on the rear, which is made up of a main 50MP custom ‘Ultra-Sensing’ Samsung ISOCELL GNV sensor. This uses sensor-shift optical image stabilisation to help deliver sharper images.

In addition, a 48-megapixel wide-angle camera, a 12-megapixel 'gimbal' portrait camera, and an 8-megapixel periscope camera round out the quadruple lens setup. And that's not all - the X80 Pro also has a 32-megapixel front-facing camera as well.

Even the standard X80 smartphone is no slouch. It gets the same 32MP front-facing camera and an only slightly smaller three-camera rear system. This consists of a 50-megapixel ultra-sensing main camera, a 12-megapixel portrait camera, and a 12-megapixel wide-angle camera. Powering these cameras is the latest iteration of Vivo’s imaging chip, the Vivo V1+, which offers AI capabilities.

Vivo has been working with Zeiss since 2020, and it says that the X80 series smartphones bring a combination of Zeiss optics and cinematic style video for the first time. All rear cameras on the X80 series have a Zeiss T* coating which enhances light transmission and helps reduce ghosting and flaring at night.

In addition, the company says it uses a built-in AI system to create 'professional-level' visual enhancement. A new ZEISS Cinematic Video Bokeh feature creates oval bokeh in the film-standard 2.39:1 aspect ratio, creating a widescreen cinematic lens effect.

Further, users can also manipulate the regular lens video bokeh, creating portrait videos with bokeh in one tap. Vivo says the bokeh effect varies to match the focal length, aperture, and shooting distance, and the bokeh balls are round, in a 16:9 regular frame. These portrait videos are accessible on all three rear cameras.

According to the company, the X80 series is able to capture city night scenes while retaining 'the original look and feel of the scene.' In addition, the X80 Pro supports XDR Photo that can improve clarity for backlit images and improve tones that better reflect what the human eye sees.

The Vivo X80 Pro is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip, while the standard X80 runs on a MediaTek Dimensity 9000. To keep everything cool, vivo uses what it calls an ‘Ultra Large Liquid Cooling Vapor Chamber’ for heat dissipation.

The entire series supports 80W FlashCharge, while the X80 Pro also supports 50W wireless FlashCharge with a 4700 mAh battery, and the X80 has a 4500 mAh large battery. The X80 Pro can get a full charge in just 35 minutes compared to its predecessor, the X70 Pro+, in 56 minutes, while the X80 can be fully recharged in 35 minutes.

The X80 series is available in two colors: Cosmic Black and Urban Blue. The X80 Pro model only comes in Cosmic Black, and the X80 model comes in both colors. No local pricing or availability has been announced yet, but we're currently working on a review of the new device, so watch this space.
