Thypoch announces Ksana 21mm f/3.5 M-mount lens
Lens manufacturer Thypoch has announced the release of the Ksana 21mm f/3.5, a compact wide-angle lens designed for M-mount cameras.
The lens combines a vintage-influenced optical character with a modern mechanical and optical design.
The Ksana 21mm f/3.5 is the first lens in Thypoch’s new Ksana series and introduces the company’s Epoch Coating 73.
The coating is part of a broader project examining the visual characteristics of lenses from different eras, with this version referencing optical rendering associated with cinema lenses from the 1970s.
The lens uses an eight-element, six-group optical design, incorporating one aspherical element, two extra-low dispersion elements and three high refractive index elements.
According to Thypoch, this construction is intended to manage chromatic aberration and maintain consistent resolution across the frame.
A nine-blade diaphragm provides an aperture range from f/3.5 to f/22. The lens produces an 80.2-degree horizontal angle of view on full-frame cameras and has a minimum focusing distance of 0.5 metres.
Distortion is reported to be low for a lens of this focal length.
The Ksana 21mm f/3.5 measures 27mm in length and weighs 131 grams. The lens barrel is constructed from aluminium and is designed for compactness and portability.
For rangefinder users, the lens includes a tactile indicator at 0.7 metres to signal the point at which rangefinder coupling disengages, requiring a switch to electronic viewfinder focusing for closer distances.
The lens features a scalloped focus ring and a crescent-shaped focus tab, reflecting a traditional rangefinder lens design. It will be available in black or silver finishes.
The Ksana 21mm f/3.5 has a recommended retail price of USD 549 ($819 AUD). It will be available from January 13. You can find out more here.
