Tamron unveils compact 35–100mm f/2.8 zoom for Sony E and Nikon Z
Tamron has announced the launch of its new 35–100mm F/2.8 Di III VXD (Model A078), a fast-aperture standard zoom designed for full-frame mirrorless cameras.
The lens is set to go on sale from March 26, and will be priced at around $1,1699 for Sony E-mount and $1,749.00 for Nikon Z-mount versions.
The new zoom arrives as a more compact sibling to Tamron’s popular 35–150mm F/2–2.8, which has built a strong following among portrait photographers since its release in 2021.
While praised for its image quality, some users have been hanging out for a lighter and more manageable alternative. Tamron says the 35–100mm was developed directly in response, honing in on the most-used portrait focal lengths while trimming size and weight.
Despite its constant f/2.8 aperture, the lens weighs just 565g and measures 119.2mm in length, making it well suited to travel and everyday shooting.
Tamron promises high image quality with smooth bokeh, alongside fast and accurate autofocus thanks to its VXD linear motor system, designed to keep up with candid moments and fleeting expressions.
The lens also offers a close minimum focusing distance of 0.22m at the wide end, opening up creative options for tabletop and detail shots. Additionally, a unified 67mm filter thread keeps things simple for those with existing filter kits.
With weather-resistant construction, a fluorine-coated front element, and an emphasis on comfortable handling, the 35–100mm F/2.8 looks set to be a good option for photographers wanting a fast, versatile zoom without the bulk.
