Sigma confirms three new prime lenses

Sigma has announced three new prime lenses, the 17mm f/4 DG DN, the 23mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary, and the 50mm f/2 DG DN Contemporary.

The 17mm f/4 and the 50mm f/2 are designed for full-frame bodies, while the 23mm f/1.4 is designed for APS-C cameras. Both the 17mm F4 and 50mm F2 will be available for Leica L and Sony E-mount, while the 50mm f/2 will come in Sony E-Mount, Leica L-Mount, and Fujifilm X-Mount flavours. 

The Sigma 17mm f/4 DG DN Contemporary weighs about 225 grams and is 48.8mm long. It features a metal barrel build, a dedicated aperture ring, and ships with a lens hood and both metal magnetic and snap-on lens caps. The lens has a close focusing distance of 12 centimeters and a 1:3.6 magnification ratio.

The Sigma 50mm f/2 DG DN Contemporary has an all-metal barrel and, like the 17mm, has an AF/MF switch and an aperture ring.

According to Sigma, the lenses optical design produces performance “comparable to the 50mm f/1.4 DG DN | Art lens” in a more compact form (37% shorter length, 48% lighter weight).

Finally, the Sigma 23mm f/1.4 is an APS-C only lens that offers a 35mm equiv. full-frame field of view. It weighs 340 grams and measures 76.9mm in length. It has a maximum magnification ratio of 1:7.3 and a minimum focusing distance of about 25cm.

No local pricing for the new glass has been confirmed, but the 17mm f/4 DG DN has an RRP of $599 USD ($883 AUD), the 23mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary $549 ($809 AUD), and the 50mm f/2 DG DN Contemporary $639 ($941 AUD).
