Pixii enters liquidation, putting future of independent rangefinder maker in doubt
French camera maker Pixii has entered judicial liquidation, casting doubt on the future of its digital rangefinder cameras and a next-generation model that was nearing completion.
The company has carved out a niche by offering an alternative to Leica in the digital rangefinder market, combining minimalist camera design with compatibility with Leica M-mount lenses. Its small range has included the APS-C Pixii A2572+ and the full-frame Pixii Max.
According to French corporate records, Pixii’s financial difficulties led to court-supervised restructuring before the proceedings were converted to judicial liquidation. The company had been seeking investors and industry partners to help it continue operating and bring its next camera to market.
The new model was expected to mark a significant departure from the design of previous Pixii cameras. In June, Leica Rumors reported that development was essentially complete, but that the company was looking for funding, partnerships and collaborations with other camera manufacturers.
Pixii first teased the redesigned rangefinder in October 2025. Its earlier cameras had shared a similar design, making the next model a potentially significant step for the brand. Whether it will ever reach production remains uncertain.
Judicial liquidation generally involves winding up a company and selling its assets to repay creditors. However, it does not necessarily mean the end of every part of the business.
Pixii’s technology, intellectual property or other assets could potentially be acquired by another company, although there is no guarantee that this would lead to the continuation of its cameras.
Pixii’s existing models are still listed by some retailers. At the time of reporting, US retailer B&H Photo was advertising the full-frame Pixii Max for US$4,499, a US$500 discount, and the APS-C Pixii A2572+ for US$2,799, US$800 off.
