Panasonic has introduced its newest S lens, the LUMIX S 24mm F1.8, which the company says is the third lens in a four-lens series joining the 50mm F1.8 and the 85mm F1.8.

All of the lenses in the LUMIX F1.8 lens series have a common positioning of controls for ease of use, a similar size that makes it swifter to switch between lenses, and a common barrel diameter that allow filters to be shared.

The LUMIX S 24mm F1.8 has a rugged dust/splash-resistant design, and weighs in at 310g. Inside, there are twelve lens elements in eleven groups including three aspherical lenses, three ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) lenses, and one UED (Ultra Extra-Low Dispersion) lens. The lens has a 9-blade circular aperture diaphragm.

Inside there's also a mechanism designed to suppresses focus breathing, and a 'micro-step' aperture control for smoother exposure changes.

The new lens should be available from this month all usual retailers. It's priced at $1,399.
