Panasonic launches new TZ300 compact camera

Another week, another compact camera.

Panasonic has launched the LUMIX TZ300, a pocket-sized digital compact camera aimed at travellers and 'everyday' photographers.

For those familiar with Panasonic's compact lineup, many of the specifications are similar to 2018's ZS200 / TZ200 model, so there's not a lot new here to see.

In fact, you could argue that Panasonic has simply taken out the viewfinder of that model, added USB-C and rebranded it, but we digress.

Moving on, the camera features a 1.0-type BSI CMOS sensor with approximately 20.1 megapixels and a 15x optical zoom. Its LEICA-certified lens covers a 24–360mm equivalent focal range.

The ZS300 includes AF Macro, which allows users to focus on subjects as close as 3cm. This is designed to make capturing small objects and details easier. The camera body is compact enough to fit in a pocket or bag.

For video, the ZS300 records in 4K at 3840 × 2160 pixels. It also supports high-speed Full HD recording at 120 frames per second and 4K PHOTO capture at 30 frames per second, allowing users to extract still images from video bursts.

Image stabilisation is provided by POWER O.I.S., which reduces blur when shooting handheld. For video, 5-axis HYBRID O.I.S.+ helps to keep footage smooth while moving.

The camera has 22 creative filter effects and a built-in flash. Connectivity includes Bluetooth and Wi-Fi for transferring images through the Panasonic Image App. USB Type-C charging is supported through AC adapters, computers, or portable power banks.

Unlike its predecessor, the ZS300 does not include a viewfinder, which may affect shooting in bright outdoor conditions. For those familiar with Panasonic's compact lineup, many of the specifications are similar to 2018's ZS200 / TZ200 model, so there's not a lot new here to see.

The new camera retails for $1,599 and is out in May. You can find out more at Panasonic
